(R2P.602) COMMAND DESTROYER (DDC) This design
was an attempt by the Federation to field a command ship for DD squadrons. First proposed in Y170,
the original production schedule called for six of these ships. Budget constraints and the fact the
design was only marginally superior to the standard DD, eventually reduced that number to two. The
first ship was completed in Y170, and was assigned to the Home Fleet. The second ship, (and apparently
the last), which was finally finished in Y171, was on its way to the 3rd fleet when the Klingons
attacked. These ships were built with the" AWR refit" as standard equipment.
F&E FACTS: For those players wishing to add this ship to their F&E games
the following would apply.
Counter Factors are 6/3. Command Rating 6. Can convert beginning in the
Fall of Y171. When grouped with two other DDs this ship increases the ComPot by 1. Counters for both
the single ship and a 3DD group are provided.
(R2P.603) IMPROVED DESTROYER (DGD) This design
was a proposal by Star Fleet to further enhance their venerable Destroyer. During the opening attacks
by the Klinons, battle reports reaching Command Headquarters pointed to the inability of the standard
DD to deal with the multitude of drones employed by the Klingons without resorting to their offensive
phasers. This refit, the addition of a G-rack, was designed to counter that threat. While authorized,
no refits of this type were carried out as the few DDs available were needed in front line units. In
F&E terms this ship is identical to a DD and no counter is provided.
(R2P.604) IMPROVED SCOUT (SCG) This design was
originally intended for the Destroyer. When no DDs became available Fleet Command put forth the idea
on installing it on the Scout Class. It appears only a single refit of this type was conducted (on
the Home Fleets Scout). In F&E terms this ship is identical to a SC and no counter is provided.
(R2D.620) FAST SCOUT (SCF) When Star Fleet
decided to abandon the concept of the fast cruiser, the engine manufacturer proposed the engines
continue in production and be installed on selected DD hull based ships. The first such proposal
offered was to put them on the DD based Scout class ships. They reasoned that the scout, with no
heavy weapons, would not only require no modifications to the hull, but the larger engines would
provide it with increased ability. Although well received by some at Star Fleet Command, the proposal
was rejected and the plan never proceeded beyond the initial design stage.
F&E FACTS: For those players wishing to add this ship to their F&E games
the following would apply.

Rating 5. Has 5EW. Ship has 7 movement points in operation, reserve, and raid movement. One SCF can
be converted from a SC Spring of Y170. Cost to convert a SC to SCF is 1 EP. Cost to convert a DD to
a SCF is 6 EP. SCF can be substituted for a NCL at the rate of one per year. Cost is 12 EP.

(R2D.621) FAST DDG DESTROYER (DGF) The second
of the proposals for using the engines developed for the fast cruiser was to install them on the DDG
class ships. Since the DDG class ships already had reduced number of photons this meant no large scale
modifications were required. This proposal never proceeded beyond the plans drawn up by the manufacturer
of the "hot" warp engines.
F&E FACTS: For those players wishing to add this ship to their F&E games
the following would apply.
Counter Factors are 6(F)/3. Command Rating 5. Ship has 7 movement points
in operation, reserve, and raid movement. One DGF can be substituted for a DD Spring of Y171. Cost
is 1 EP. DGF can be substituted for a NCL at the rate of one per year. Cost is 7 EP. A counter is
provided.
(R2D.623) FAST DESTROYER ESCORT (DEF) The third
proposal involving the use of the "hot" warp engines was to install them on the DE class
ships thus producing a fast escort. They reasoned that the escort (like the DDG) already had reduced
number of photons and thus would not only require no modifications to the hull, but would produce a
more capable ship. As with the first two proposals (that of a Fast SC and Fast DDG) the idea fell on
deaf ears and this design exists only as an engineering study.
F&E FACTS: For those players wishing to add this ship to their F&E games
the following would apply.
Counter Factors are 5-6(F)n/2-3n.
Command Rating 5. Ship has 7 movement points in operation, reserve, and raid movement. One DEF can
be substituted for a DE in the Spring Y172 PWC. The cost of this conversion is 2 EP, which is deducted
from the Federations first turn EP. Additional DEFs can be substituted for DE/NCLs at a rate of one
per year, cost is 1 EP. A counter is provided.
(R2011) COMMAND COURIER (DDP) These ships are specially
outfitted destroyers for regular duty as command and diplomatic couriers. 9 were built from 135.
Note: For the comfort of the passengers this ship carried, its life support costs are doubled.
(R2012) MEDIUM PRIORITY TRANSPORT (DDT) This is a cargo
variant of the DDP. Designed as a high speed transport, it worked along side the FFT. 18
were built from 140.
(R2013) COMMANDO DESTROYER (DCM) This is a proposed commando
variant of the DDT. Originally proposed in Y140, 2 were converted from DDCs in Y169.

the following would apply. Counter Factors are 2-6G/1-3. Command Rating 5. Can substitute or convert
DD to DCM beginning in the Spring of Y172. Cost is 2 EP. A counter is provided.
(R2010) DRONE BOMBARDMENT DESTROYER (DDB) The SC Monoceros was
converted in Y162 as a drone launching platform. Built partially in response to the Klingon F5D and the
Kzinti SDF, no other ships of this type were produced. It was assigned to the 4th Fleet.
F&E FACTS: For those players wishing to add this ship to their F&E games
the following would apply. Counter Factors are 3-6[3]u/1-3. Command Rating 5.
One DD in the 4th (Kzinti Fleet) can be a DDB. Can convert DD to DDB (one per turn) beginning in the
Fall of Y171, and no more than two per turn in Fall Y173+. Counts as a NCD for production purposes.
Cost is 4 EP. EW =1. A counter is provided.
(R2052) PATROL DESTROYER (PDD) This is the 3rd destroyer
variant. It was introduced in Y166-167 along with the DDG and DDL. This design replaced 2 photons
with Phaser-Is in an attempt to reduce power consumption. One ship was converted to this design in
Y166. It is not known if additional ships of this type were built. Any ships of this design would
have received the standard + refit at the same time as other DDs. IN F&E terms this ship is
identical to a DD and no counter is provided.
(R2039) PHOTON WAR DESTROYER (DWJ) Like the
FFJ, this was a DW with its 3 photons replaced by 6 miniphotons firing fore and aft. IN F&E
terms this ship is identical to a DW, and no counter is provided.
(R2P.701) WAR DESTROYER ESCORT (DEW) This
variant of the DEW retained a pair of Photons to provide the carrier group with increased heavy
firepower. In F&E terms this ship is identical to a DW, and no counter is provided.
(R2P.702) WAR DESTROYER ESCORT (DWR) Another
variant of the DEW, This ship, which was designed to be used on the Romulan front, carried an increased
phaser suite at the cost of drone racks. In F&E terms this ship is identical to a DW, and no
counter is provided.
(R2D.710) LIGHT TACTICAL SCOUT (LTS) The Federation soon
found their DW based scout lacked protection in the heavy fleet actions it was called on to
participate in. Unable to add weapons which did not blind the sensors they added a pair of shuttle
mech links and provided a pair of A-20 heavy fighters. The modification was relatively simple in
theory but only a few of these conversions were made.

5. Can produce by conversion or substitution one per year beginning in the Fall of Y178. Conversion
cost is 2 EP,does not include the cost of the fighters. It is a casual carrier. A counter is provided.
(R2P.804) COMMAND FRIGATE (FFC) Finding a need
for a ship to lead frigate squadrons, the Federation produced this variant in Y170. It was considered
far more successful than the DDC, and funding from the DDC program was shifted to the FFC program.
Star Fleets plans called for converting a large number of FFGs to this design, but only one was completed
before the Klingons attacked. These ships incorporated the AWR refit in the design.
F&E FACTS: For those players wishing to add this ship to their F&E games
the following would apply. Counter Factors are 6/3. Command Rating 5. Can substitute or convert one
FF to FFW once per turn beginning in the Fall of Y176. Cost is 2 EP. Conversions can be done at
Starbases. A counter is provided.
(R2P.812) WAR FRIGATE (FFW) Federation Ship
designers were attracted by the Lyrans capability to convert their smaller ships (FFs and DDs)
to more powerful variants. In an effort to duplicate this, a small number of Improved Frigates (FFG)
were taken in hand, and modified by attaching the diminutive rear hull being produced for the new
NCAs. Records show few of these ships were built, and there seems some controversy as to just why
so few were built.
F&E FACTS: For those players wishing to add this ship to their F&E games
the following would apply.
Counter Factors are 6/3. Command Rating 5. Can substitute or convert
one FF to FFW once per turn beginning in the Fall of Y176. Cost is 3 EP. Conversions can be done at
Starbases. A counter is provided.
(R2P.Z49) ESCORT CARRIER (FVZ) This ship was part of the
Engine-Mounted Weapons Study. Although it had no heavy weapons, drones were selected as the weapon
of choice, as was done with many of the ships included in the study.
F&E FACTS: For those players wishing to add this ship to their F&E games
the following would apply.
Counter Factors are 4-5(3)/2-3(1). Command rating 4. Can be built in
SY174 by substituting for a FFV for a cost of 6 (fighters not included). Can be converted from FFV
for a cost of 1 EP. Counters for both the FVZ and 2FVZ are provided.
(R2038) PHOTON FRIGATE (FFJ) An experimental
ship that replaced its 2 photons with 4 miniphotons firing fore and aft. It was designed to fight
PFs. In F&E terms this ship is identical to a FF, and no counter is provided.
(R2M.820) BATTLE SCOUT (FBS) As part of the
submission proposal for the FFB, the design contractor submitted this plan to convert the ship into
a scout. Due to the need for additional scouts it is believed that at least one of the three
additional FFBs ordered was in fact completed as a FBS.
F&E FACTS: For those players wishing to add this ship to their F&E games

(R2M.821) BATTLE ESCORT (FBE) A second conversion
option was presented by the FFB design contractor called for turning the ship into a carrier escort.
Unlike its competitor, the DW, this design retained some photons to provide the carrier group additional
punch. A slightly enlarged bay held three shuttles, two of which were equipped with ready racks. The
ship has double drone control. While there exists no postive proof some sources claim that one of the
FFBs was converted to this design.
F&E FACTS: For those players wishing to add this ship
to their F&E games the following would apply.

Command Rating 5. Can substitute or convert one FFB to FBE once per turn beginning in the Fall of
Y177. Cost is 1 EP. Conversions can be done at Starbases. A counter is provided.
(R2058) BATTLE DRONE FRIGATE (FBD) With
the introduction of the FFB, it was proposed to introduce a drone variant. The production of FFBs
was fairly limited and the drone variant never went any farther than a proposal.
(R2P.830) MULTI-ROLE FRIGATE (MRF) It is not known where this
idea came from, or who first proposed the concept of attaching a small addition, (whose systems could be
quickly and easily reconfigured) to the rear of a ship. Similar in nature to the Tholian Cargo
Pack, but smaller, these were mere "blisters" hard welded to the ship. The Federation, to
counter the reports of the Klingon F5MR, reluctantly began work on a Multi-Role Frigate in Y165. Two
ships were finished in late Y165, but further production was cancelled when the design did not meet
expectations.
(R2D.850) HEAVY FRIGATE (HFF) This was an unsolicited design
for the War Destroyer project. Impressed with the design as well as the audacity of the firm submiting
it, Star Fleet ordered a prototype. The company was unable to complete the ship in time for the fly-offs
not completing it until early Y177.
F&E FACTS: For those players wishing to add this ship to their F&E games
the following would apply.
Counter Factors are 6/3. Command rating 5. Can be built in
FY177 by substituting for a DW. Cost is 4 EP. Salvage is 1.2 EP. A counters is provided.
(R2D.880) (OLD) FRIGATE (OFF) A few years
after the Federation began converting it's old CLs to warp power Star Fleet foresaw the need for
smaller warp powered ships. A small number of old sub-light frigates (which had been used as customs
and anti-pirate ships) were converted to warp power. These few ships (three or four at the most)
served in the same role until about Y140 when they were all scrapped.
(R2.59A) POLICE FLAGSHIP (PLF) This is an
alternative SSD. It has the same content of the FLG, only its layout is different. In F&E terms
this ship is identical to a POL, and no counter is provided.
(R2053) HEAVY POLICE CUTTER (HPL) As the War
progressed, the Federation found that its Police cutter was becoming more inadequate every day. As
larger Star Fleet ships were not going to be turned over, (in fact, Star Fleet was using POLs to
bolster their fleets), the Police forces turned to improving the cutter. Introduced in Y177, the HPL
featured an enlarged rear hull, a 3rd engine, and a slight increase in firepower while using
existing POL parts.
(R2054) IMPROVED DRONE POLICE CUTTER (IPD) In
Y177, the improved police cutter U.S.S. Sheriff Bart suffered damage in combat with
an Orion raider resulting in its photon tubes needing complete replacement. As replacement
photons were not available at its command base, they were instead replaced with scavenged
B-type drone racks. The Bart retained its pair of ‘six-shooters’ for the remainder of its
service life.
(R2055) IMPROVED POLICE FRIGATE (PFM) Late in the
General War, the Police Frigate NCC 71, the Harry Callahan was outfitted with an experimental
Mega-Phaser wing. The Callahan, nicknamed the Dirty Harry, made many a day for any
Orions who came across her.
(R2D.A5A) POLICE WAR DESTROYER (PWD) When
officials of the Solar Turbomecha company learned that the Police Destroyer proposed by the
Nikolayev-Andor shipyard had been cancelled they quickly offered to sell the 30K MW engines in hopes
increasing their business. The proposal was accepted and a number of these ships entered service in
Y178 and later.
(R2027) RECOVERY TUG (TGR) The concept of this design was to
provide a ship to tow pods and ships. They were first used to recover crippled ships, and later were
often used to tow FRDs. Although capable of operating pods they did not do so in combat situations
due to their vulnerability. First built in Y140, the Federation produced many ships of this class.
(R2037) CORVETTE (COR) With the advent of PFs,
the Federation looked for a cheap, fast ship to combat them. The answer was an outgrowth of their own
PF studies, and was built in large numbers from Y180. The advantage of this ship was that it was
cheap, and required less manpower to operate at the cost of being fragile. In F&E terms this ship is
identical to a POL, and no counter is provided.
Note: Due to the small size of this ship, a type-VI drone does 4 pts. of damage rather than 2,
and any defensive fire systems treat this ship as if it was a PF.
Note: This ship can land and take off from a planet using all landing systems.
